In 1998, in collaboration with Prof. Carlo Alberto Lotti, Vivi Papi began photographing images of existing frescoes in the province of Varese having as their subject the Madonnas of Loreto; this was part of a study that included the publication of a volume. The volume was unfortunately never produced, but the images remain, both black-and-white on 24x36 mm negative and color on 10x12 cm slide, and are now kept in the archive and available for any further study or publication. In addition, images of previously photographed frescoes and paintings were included in the study.
On these images, except for any rights of the owners of the works, there is no restriction of use.
The frescoes that have been photographed, all dated between 1400 and 1500, are situated in the following buildings:

- Gorla Maggiore: church of SS. Vitale and Valeria (photos 1990)
- Induno Olona: church of S. Pietro in Silvis (photos 1989 and 1998)
- Luino: church of Carmine, overall and detail (photos 1998)
- Luino - Voldomino: church of S. Biagio (photos 1998)
- Portovaltravaglia: church of S. Rocco, overall and detail (photos 1998)
- Varese: church of Our Lady of Loreto, arch leading into the apse and fresco (photos 1998)
